Captain Space Sex by Satoshi Fujiwara
Captain Space Sex became renowned in Berlin art and music circles during the late 1980s and 90s for his visually bombastic and sexually fluid space punk performances. Drawing on the androgyny of new wave, and the collision of analogue and digital technologies, Captain Space Sex pioneered a hybrid of electro, cyberpunk and glam rock that heavily influenced the electroclash scene in late 1990s Berlin.
Captain Space Sex was an early collaborator of Honey-Suckle Company, recording and producing sound for the groups Synthetic and Batterie ON/OFF.
His stage constructions, which layered Xerox art, cellophane and tape, provided inspiration for Honey-Suckle Company’s fashion collections and happenings.
For Omnibus, Captain Space Sex performs in the Lower Gallery space, activating HSC’s installation as a stage and a living history.
Soundvibrator marks thirty years since Captain Space Sex’s first musical appearance, on Toshimoto Dolls’ LP Space Sex (1989).
