Amongst many other artistic partnerships with Monika Treut and Rosa von Praunheim, Austrian filmmaker and cinematographer Elfi Mikesch was longtime friend and collaborator of Werner Schroeter’s from his earliest to his final works and his death on 12 April 2010.
In Mondo Lux she captures a radically intimate portrait of the filmmaker moving between hospital rooms, rehearsal spaces, and moments of fierce reflection, incorporating excerpts of his cinema and with music running as a continuous thread, she binds together art and life, stage and screen, friendship and devotion.
This screening is playing as part of Anguish & Ecstasy: The Cinema of Werner Schroeter. It will be followed by a free drinks reception in the Upper Bar.
