Artist Insights II
Institute of Contemporary Arts
SOUTH X SOUTH EAST, Belinda Zhawi, 2019.

An afternoon session with Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley and Current Transmissions artist, Belinda Zhawi, who will share their recent work and unique insight into their ideas and approaches. With a small group, this session will offer the opportunity to hear first-hand from the artists with the opportunity for questions and discussion.

This talk is presented as part of Current Transmissions, a four-day showcase of new works in audio, moving image and interactive media created by London-based emerging artists.
Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley is an artist working predominantly in animation, sound and performance to communicate their experience as a Black Trans person. Their practice focuses on recording the lives of Black Trans people, intertwining lived experience with fiction to imaginatively retell Trans stories. Spurred on by a desire to meet buried bodies like theirs, their work dreams of a Trans archive where Black Trans people could share their experiences.

Belinda Zhawi is a Zimbabwean born writer, sound artist & educator currently based in London. Her work explores Afro-diasporic research & narratives; how art & education can be used as intersectional tools
