Once a member of a motorcycle gang, Hisashi now lives in rural Japan, where he battles a drug addiction and avoids his rapidly accumulating gambling debts. As Hisashi moves from pachinko parlour to karaoke club to discount outlet, we see the sprawling impact of capitalism on the contemporary Japanese countryside, which has gradually disrupted the quietude traditionally characteristic of life outside the city.
