She Dies Tomorrow, dir. Amy Seimetz, USA 2020, 86 min, English

Gripped by the belief that she will die tomorrow, Amy (Kate Lyn Sheil) struggles to convince her best friend (Jane Adams) that her fears are real. Little does she know, however, that her fear is spreading indiscriminately, until the film is populated, seemingly, only by people who think they are going to die.

Amy Seimetz’s second feature is steeped in the isolation brought on by anxiety, befitting a film whose initial theatrical release was thwarted by the COVID-19 pandemic’s own anxious shockwaves. Here, she blends macabre humour, formal rigour, and a fractured narrative to encapsulate not only the stifling nature of anxiety, but the liberating, expressive ways its burden can be shared among friends and strangers.

This screening will feature an introduction from writer and critic Lillian Crawford.
