A Woman Escapes in 3D
Institute of Contemporary Arts
A young person reads a card with 3D glasses on
A Woman Escapes, dir. Sofia Bohdanowicz, Burak Çevik, Blake Williams, Canada / Turkey 2022, English & Turkish with English subtitles, 82 min.

Audrey Benac lives alone in Paris after having moved there to tend to the home of her recently deceased friend Juliane. Moving through the days without any clear motivation or sense of purpose, she tries to reestablish her footing in the world by beginning video correspondences with two filmmakers: Burak, who lives in Istanbul, and Blake, who lives in Toronto. This exchange of words and footage initiates a healing process, but the nature of the interaction is not what it seems.

Both a continuation of Sofia Bohdanowicz’s Audrey Benac film series and an intriguing collaboration with fellow filmmakers Burak Çevik and Blake Williams, A Woman Escapes is a formally inventive take on the correspondence film that brings together a variety of formats from 3D to 16mm.

The ICA is delighted to present the UK Premiere of A Woman Escapes on 1 February followed by a Q&A with Sofia Bohdanowicz

The UK premiere will be followed by a week-long run in the ICA Cinema.

To accompany the premiere of A Woman Escapes, the ICA is delighted to present a programme of Sofia Bohdanowicz's previous work on the 30 and 31 January.
