Chicago footwork has flown around the world since it broke out of Windy City limits in the early 2010s. The likes of RP Boo, DJ Spinn, Jana Rush, Jlin and, of course, DJ Rashad have all shaped the course of modern electronic music and become household names (especially among the Unsound faithful).
In the 2020s, Chicago footwork has found new life internationally: the music coming out of Chicago is still great and the dance form continues to draw in new acolytes globally. Footwork scenes in the UK, Poland and Japan are thriving, as a new generation of fans and active participants push one of the most innovative music and dance cultures in the world into the future.
Here, Chicago footwork pioneer RP Boo, Polish Outlines label boss Paide, 160 Unity/Tropical Waste founder Seb Wheeler and After Werks co-founder Aoife Keane discuss footwork's latest era, the rise of footwork dance culture outside of Chicago and footwork's ongoing evolution within and beyond Chicago. The conversation will be moderated by Aliyah Husna, a London-based DJ, radio producer, presenter and educator.
