Thank you for booking a ticket to STARS: An Afrofuturist Space Odyssey at the ICA. We look forward to welcoming you. Below is some important information about your visit.


How to find us

STARS takes place in the ICA Theatre, Institute of Contemporary Arts, The Mall, London, SW1Y 5AH. 

The nearest stations are Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus and Westminster. The front entrance is on The Mall, near the bottom of the Duke of York steps.

Just inside the front entrance you will see a welcome desk. The ICA Theatre is located on the right, past the gallery and bar space.

About the performance 

•  STARS is around 90 minutes long with no interval. Performances will start promptly at 7:30pm (2:00pm for Saturday matinees) and doors will open 30 minutes before.

•  Seating is by general admission and consists of a mixture of hard-backed chairs and large, relaxed beanbags on the floor closest to the stage. Seating is available on a first-come basis, but if you require a hard-backed chair or a position closer to the stage for access reasons please let a member of ICA staff know.

•  The STARS playtext is available to buy for £6 from the ICA front desk.

•  The ICA Theatre is wheelchair accessible and there are two wheelchair spaces with companion seating close to the stage. If you wish to reserve a wheelchair space, book a free companion seat, or have other access requirements please contact the ICA team via access@ica.art or call 020 7930 3647


Facilities

•  The ICA Bar will be open before and after performances and offers a range of hot and cold drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Drinks will be permitted in the Theatre in plastic cups.

•  All-gender toilets are located near the stairwell in the ICA Bar, and a wheelchair accessible toilet is located near the front desk at the main ICA entrance.

•  Please note that there is no cloakroom and large bags should be kept to a minimum.


Content

•  STARS is recommended for ages 14+ and under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. The club nights on Saturday 22 and Saturday 29 April are for ages 18+.

•  Although a joyful and celebratory show about an old woman’s search for her lost orgasm, STARS does also explore sensitive topics that may be triggering for some audience members. These topics include sexual violence, FGM, conversion therapy and intersex experience. The play also includes some strong language. 

•  On Saturday 22 and Saturday 29 April the 7:30pm performances will transform into a club night with DJs and dancing in the Theatre from 9:00pm to 1:00am (included in the 7:30pm performance ticket for these nights). The club nights will include theatrical haze and flashing light effects. More
