JGrrey’s viral rendition of Don’t Fade of Berlin’s cult famous COLORSxSTUDIOS in 2017 served as a rite of passage of sorts for her in the music industry. It caught the ears of many new fans who wanted to hear more from this captivating voice who was releasing unmixed experimental neo-soul on SoundCloud.

Soon came an invitation to support Billie Eilish on her European tour, bringing her out in front of audiences of tens of thousands of people.

After a slew of EP and single releases which garnered JGrrey a global fanbase, in October 2023 she released her project ‘If Not Now?’, with tracks featuring Kojey Radical and Zombie Juice. Her audience continued to grow with her and “Drream” took on a life of its own on social media. Not one to be phased by the whims of virality, JGrrey is more interested in knowing that her music has really touched the people who engage with it.

She herself admits that her life has been one of pure delusion, talking herself into opportunities and out of situations, reaching these sorts of heights was never something that she took for granted. Navigating the world from early beginnings as state property, to being placed in a family with strangers, questioning her identity as both black and white - but also neither one - her artist name draws from a perpetual probing of the grey zone where all roads have led her.

JGrrey’s first album, ‘you, me & jen’ opens a conversation up between her various selves and her listeners as the title suggests. It demonstrates a level of maturity and tenderness that has been hard earned, but is also funny, cheeky and audacious.

‘you, me & jen’ is as much an exploration of balancing opposite feelings, concepts or ideas and finding the middle ground. From striking the balance between swagger and humility, to being able to feel whole alone, and also to trust people enough to form healthy relationships, JGrrey exposes some of her deepest struggles and how she is overcoming them with this album.
