Ear Worms x Late Works:
At First Sight
Institute of Contemporary Arts

Late Works bring their intermedia event At First Sight to Ear Worms, where a band – led by the voice-like cello and saxophone – ‘read’ improvised writings from their music stands. The audience and the musicians go back and forth in conversation with one another, feeding each other’s writing/playing with improvised playing/writing.

There will be four improvised performances, with short breaks between for the musicians to briefly read the writings they will be responding to.

Musicians for this session include Emma Barnaby on cello, Francis Devine on piano, and Evie Hilyer-Ziegler on violin and viola.

Part of the ICA 75th Anniversary Season
Ear Worms is a regular listening circle/write-in, and a collaboration between the ICA Bookstore and Worms – a publisher and biannual literary style magazine that celebrates female and non-binary writer culture. Using immersive sound as a central point of departure, Ear Worms aims to use writing and deep listening as a community tool and encourages attendees to experiment with free-form, non-restrictive writing practises.

Late Works is a sporadic series of live intermedia events and permutable collective of artists, musicians, writers, designers, filmmakers and dancers, with a monthly radio show on Resonance Extra. The heavily process-based experimental shows are united by an ethos of indeterminate intermedia improvisation.
