Artistic platform and label 99CHANTS debuts its new series Tenendo per mano il futuro (Holding the future by the hand) at ICA for the first time. The event will feature live performances by Valentina Magaletti, VISIO, and a collaboration between Moroccan calligraphy artist Hiba Baddou and David August.

Italian-born and London-based Valentina Magaletti, a drummer, composer, and percussionist, explores new materials and sounds with a folkloristic and eclectic approach. With side projects like Tomaga, Holy Tongue, or Moin – just to name a few – Magaletti's impressive diversity of  activities contribute to her continuously expanding musical heritage. For the 99CHANTS showcase at ICA, she will present a solo improvised set for drums and percussion.

Composer and multidisciplinary artist VISIO, aka Nicola Tirabasso, has gained recent attention with his 2022 debut Privacy Angels on Haunter, but he has been active in music, performance, and graphic design for over a decade. Described as ‘...broken down and reassembled by algorithm, pitching between the digital and the spiritual.’ by FACT Magazine, VISIO's solo performance at ICA will convey mysticism and speculative sounds, creating a soundtrack for a reenchanted world.

Born and raised in Morocco, Hiba Baddou developed a passion for calligraphy and shapes during her childhood, drawing inspiration from mystical imagery and her cultural roots. In her latest works, she questions the space occupied by languages and rituals in human interaction.

David August, composer and founder of 99CHANTS, recently released his latest album VĪS, featuring a collaboration with Baddou on the Imaginary Alphabet – a calligraphic translation of the music into 121 semantic symbols. Continuing their collaborative journey, Baddou and August will present a performance at ICA where both music and calligraphy complement each other, fostering a ritualistic synergy in a state of discovery.
