Developed from interviews with numerous transgender subjects, this ground breaking drama from acclaimed film-making duo Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert (Never Gonna Snow Again) is ambitious and heart felt. It features Mateusz Więcławek (Be Prepared) then Małgorzata Hajewska-Krzysztofik (Szumowska’s 33 Scenes From Life) as someone experiencing gender dysphoria, growing up in small town Poland.
A compelling narrative spanning almost 50 years, a strong performance from wife Joanna Kulig and emotive cinematography combine to reveal the life of struggle experienced by someone who does not conform to societal norms. In the spirit of Wajda, Woman of… challenges us to listen to voices not only from the trans community but from all marginalised people
