Described by Snow as the culmination of his interest in the relationship between sound and image, Rameau's Nephew is an epic tour of audiovisual meaning in all its forms. Its 25 discrete sections use wordplay and many other types of signification to create an eccentric depiction of our communicative abilities.
Taking its title from a dialogue by French satirist Denis Diderot, the film is also inspired by Diderot's encyclopedic tendencies and the playfulness of Marcel Duchamp, and features contributions and appearances from Chantal Akerman, Babette Mangolte, Jonas Mekas, Annette Michelson, Nam June Paik, Amy Taubin and Joyce Wieland.
