The Little Match Girl
Institute of Contemporary Arts
The Little Match Girl (La vendedora de fósforos), dir. Alejo Moguillansky, Argentina 2017, Spanish with English subtitles, 74 min.

Book tickets

A husband and father attempts to stage an opera, that may or may not really be an opera, drawing from Leonardo da Vinci's Mongibello and the story of a Red Army Faction militant. Meanwhile, a wife and mother working for an ageing pianist attempts to negotiate a raise, whilst also caring for her daughter and helping to provide ingenious solutions to her husbands myriad directorial complications.

Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale is the gravitational centre around which a constellation of characters and ideas orbit in Alejo Moguillansky's fascinatingly reflexive and playfully tangential exploration of creativity and its obstacles.
