Against the backdrop of Havana’s sun-drenched streets and shimmering coastline, ¡Quba! explores the evolution of Cuba’s LGBTQ+ community through the stories of those who have fought for greater visibility and acceptance.
At its heart is Adela Hernández, a pioneering trans politician and the first openly transgender person elected to public office in Cuba. Alongside her is Ramón Silverio, who transformed El Mejunje into a cultural space for LGBTQ+ artists and performers.
Through archival footage and personal stories, the film follows generations of artists and activists as they challenge prejudice and celebrate the ongoing journey towards greater visibility and equality in Cuba, culminating in Cuba’s 2022 marriage equality referendum.
