Fred Baillif created this deeply naturalistic drama in close collaboration with its non-professional actresses, all residents of the Geneva care home where it’s both shot and set. Exploring its characters’ fates individually and collectively, it’s a raw examination of the juvenile care system that ploughs a dynamic line between documentary and fiction – and won the Grand Prix in the Generation 14+ strand at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Seven unrelated girls live together under the same roof, but – just like a family – they haven’t chosen each other’s company. Emerging from difficult backgrounds, these seven girls are trying to find a new community in the residential care facility they’ve come to call home. Sharing their joy and pain, they rebel against the shortcomings of their surroundings, but care-home director Lora is always there for them when they need her. Or is it the other way around?
