International Competition: On the Pulse of Hope
Institute of Contemporary Arts
To Calm the Pig Inside, dir. Joanna Vasquez Arong, Philippines 2021, 18 min.

It was long till Spring, yet the frozen water was still flowing. Death laced in solitary, children seeking meaning, a couple drowning in lust and a neighbourhood in drought from routine. In truth, nobody wants water this thin.

This curated selection of International Competition Shorts explores the effects of natural disasters and our environments on the human psyche. The effects of a typhoon on a small town and its inhabitants in Philippines, the determination to keep a game going in post-war Kosovo, and the idiosyncrasies of a cemetery-dwelling man in rural USA.

Curated by Qila Gil, these films are all in the running to win Best International Short at LSFF 2022.
