Danger Zone + Q&A
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Danger Zone, dir. Vita Maria Drygas, Poland, UK 2023, 93 min.

Seeing the harsh reality of life in war zones on our news feeds it is hard to comprehend that some might choose to visit them as tourists. But this dark side of tourism is exactly what Vita Maria Drygas reveals in her unsettling documentary.

Taking an observational approach she juxtaposes the experiences of Eleonora, AJ, Andrew and tour operator Nick with the everyday lives of those who live and fight in countries such as Somalia and Afghanistan. She explores their motivations, largely without judgement, leaving us to draw our own conclusions. Developed over 7 years this is a road movie with a deep moral question at the core - is this the extremity of privilege?

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Vita Maria Drygas.
