Genuine Fake Premium Economy

A double-bill screening of Buck Ellison’s short film and Lauren Greenfield’s documentary.

Buck Ellison’s first film Henry, Henry, Henry (2019), is structured in three 58-second-long parts, each in the style of a luxury commercial. They are nearly identical in narrative: a man wakes up, reads the newspaper, plays with his son, puts on a blazer, all set to a doo-wop tune. Slight variations such as a different actor, different newspaper, different Ivy League T-shirt suggest the performative nature of this idealised characterisation of masculinity.

Lauren Greenfield’s documentary, The Queen of Versailles (2012), follows billionaire real estate couple Jackie and David Siegel, as they build their dream home, the largest privately-owned house in America modelled on the Palace of Versailles. Then the Great Recession hits and their sprawling empire is turned upside down, bringing with them family, friends, colleagues, and staff.
