The Trouble with Public Art (BSL signed)

16 Jan 2013

This talk takes a closer look at some of the most notable and controversial public art commissions in the world. Examining the challenges that commissioning public art entails the talk brings together a distinguished panel to discuss how artists and curators continue to redefine the nature of what public art can be.

The conversation will be chaired by Michaela Crimmin, with Kasper König and Louisa Buck. Michaela Crimmin was Head of Arts at the RSA from 1997 to 2010, coordinating the Fourth Plinth series in Trafalgar Square and directing the Arts & Ecology Centre for the RSA and Arts Council England. Louisa Buck is a critic and contemporary art correspondent for The Art Newspaper. She was also a jurist for the 2005 Turner Prize, awarded to Simon Starling's Shedboatshed. Kasper König was until recently director of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, he co-founded the Münster Sculpture Project in 1977, and has been a central figure in art since the 1960s.
