New Zealander TV journalist David Farrier specialises in light entertainment and quirky news, so when he stumbles across ‘Competitive Endurance Tickling’ online, he thinks he has found his next story.
But as he tries to find out more, he comes up against fierce resistance from the organisers, and it soon becomes apparent that this seemingly innocuous if rather odd ‘sport’ is not what it appears to be. Reminiscent of Catfish (2010) and The Imposter (2012), this staggering documentary takes us from light-hearted investigation into dark conspiracy-thriller territory.
Tickled, dir. David Farrier and Dylan Reeve, New Zealnad 2016, 92 mins
