Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), teams up with Mat Whitecross (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, Spike Island) to tackle game-changing act Oasis. With unprecedented access to Oasis’s archive, they create a magnificent patchwork of rarities from the Oasis vault, skilfully woven together with new interviews with the band as they look back (sometimes in anger) on their experiences. The film follows the Gallaghers’ truly rags-to-riches journey from a Manchester council estate to the release of their first single, Supersonic, to selling out stadiums. Liam and Noel’s furious feuding and the mayhem and excess of the band were a magnet for the press. The brothers speak unusually candidly about their fractious relationship and extraordinary rise to fame.
Supersonic tells the story behind one of the world’s greatest super-bands, and is a riveting portrayal of the Britpop phenomenon.
Supersonic, dir. Mat Whitecross, UK 2016, 122 mins.
Please note that a three minute short film will be screened before the first main feature every evening. Part of a rotating selection that changes weekly, the films shown are currently on tour to various arts venues across the country as part of Playback
