Studio Sessions: BEAUTIFUL FREAKS: From Blitz kid to BLITZ magazine

Studio Sessions: BEAUTIFUL FREAKS: From Blitz kid to BLITZ magazine

20 Mar 2014

A personal trip back to the 1980s with Iain R. Webb, when style was born out of adversity and fashion was out of fashion.

For London, the start of the 1980s was a time of change: post punk before the digital age and the dawn of a hedonistic club scene that saw the birth of the New Romantics. As BLITZ magazine's fashion editor from 1982-87, Iain R. Webb was at the centre of this world. On its pages, a new breed of young iconoclasts hoped to inspire revolution. The magazine's arresting, subversive fashion pages, and its profiles of disparate designers and creative types, helped to define an era.

Led by staff and students in Art, Design, Architecture and Philosophy at Kingston University, Studio Sessions will engage a broad audience in discussion and debate about the future of these disciplines, and how they are increasingly important as ways of thinking about the world. As the venue for these sessions, the ICA Studio encourages debate and conviviality.

Studio Sessions are staged as part of the affiliation between the ICA and Kingston University’s Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, and the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy.
