Stanley Picker Lectures

2 May 20141 Jul 2017

Since 2014, the ICA has collaborated with The Contemporary Art Research Centre at Kingston University, London to host the Stanley Picker Public Lectures on Art. The programme was established in 2007 by the artist Elizabeth Price to provide a platform for prominent contemporary artists and thinkers to present their ideas and work to a public audience.

In 2017, artists and practitioners Laura Mulvey, Anne Bean, Georgina Starr and Goshka Macuga speak about their work.

On grounding their 2017 invitations, curators Charlotte Cullinan and Jeanine Richards quote as references:

INTUITION
For other uses, see Intuition (disambiguation).
Intuition is the ability to acquire knowledge without proofevidence, or conscious reasoning, or without understanding how the knowledge was acquired.[1][2] Different writers give the word "intuition" a great variety of different meanings, ranging from direct access to unconscious knowledge, unconscious cognition, inner sensing, inner insight to unconscious pattern-recognition and the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning. [3][4]

FEMININE
"Feminine" redirects here. For other uses, see Feminine (disambiguation).
Femininity (also called girlishnesswomanliness or womanhood) is a set of attributes, behaviors, and roles generally associated with girls and women. Femininity is socially constructed, but made up of both socially-defined and biologically-created factors.[1][2][3] This makes it distinct from the definition of the biological female sex,[4][5] as both males and females can exhibit feminine traits.

In 2016, Ansel Krut, Nicole Wermers and Joshua Simon, and Sarah Michelson spoke about their approach to making work.

In 2015, the artists Rose Wylie, Sophie von Hellermann, Gavin Turk and Doug Ashford were invited to speak about their practice.

The artists who presented in 2014 were Stephan DillemuthKatrin PlavcakMarvin Gaye Chetwynd and Fiona Banner.
