The Independent Cinema Office presents Two Films by Josephine Decker

15 Aug 201520 Aug 2015

The Independent Cinema Office presents a tour of the films of Josephine Decker, who the New Yorker called "the most original independent director to surface in the last few years." Working with key independent cinemas across the UK, the ICO will host screenings of Decker’s first two features—Butter on the Latch and Thou Wast Mild and Lovely—along with discussions with key thinkers in film and beyond.

“Josephine Decker has fashioned the kind of feature debut the film industry simply doesn’t support, but would do well to encourage: a visually poetic, virtually free-form groove in which emotion, rather than narrative, guides viewers through” - Variety on Butter on the Latch

Inspired by Decker’s freeform filmmaking and her collaborative, intuitive approach, the project will encompass an experiment in exploratory audience development. The project hopes to challenge assumptions made about audience habits for harder to place films and create an opportunity for a diverse and intersectional critique of them.
