Do we too readily think about conflicts in terms of good and evil? Taking the example of Darfur, Mahmood Mamdani, who is Herbert Lehman professor of government at Colombia University, director of its Institute of African Studies and author of Saviours and Survivors, comes to the ICA to criticise the humanitarian response to the ongoing violence there, and to warn against the sometimes inflationary spiral of the West's concern to protect victims from perpetrators. Chair: Tom Porteous, London director of Human Rights Watch and author of Britain in Africa.
