Safar: Love, Theft and other Entanglements + Q&A

15 Sep 2016

We are offering a special multibuy deal for the Safar Film Festival: book tickets for three or more individual films and get them for £9 each

This screening is followed by a Q&A with curator Rasha Salti and director Muayad Alayan.

Structured as a noir thriller, Love, Theft and other Entanglements is thoroughly infused with an absurdist humour that focuses intelligently on the bitter reality of Palestinian life in Jerusalem. For this low-budget indie, director Muayad Alayan was inspired by real events and by the grassroots approach that directors Robert Rodriguez and Christopher Nolan advocated at the beginning of their careers, to breakthrough and make films in spite of a lack of funds. Elegantly shot, the director’s black and white cinematography is a bold artistic choice that reinforces the film’s dramatic coherence and mediates emotions with sharp precision.

Love, Theft and other Entanglements (Al-Hob Wa Al-Sariqa Wa Mashakel Ukhra), dir. Muayad Alayan, Palestine 2015, 93 mins. Arabic, English and Hebrew with English subtitles.
