Open City Documentary Festival creates an open space in London to nurture and champion the art of creative documentary and non-fiction filmmakers, providing a platform for emerging talent as well as established masters working within the documentary form.
In addition to the Ross brothers' Western, the festival also features Sergei Loznita's follow-up to Maidan, found footage documentary The Event, which chronicles the attempted Russian coup of 1991 that failed to oust Gorbachev.
Other offerings include Il Solengo, the Italian documentary in search of a mythical hermit, a Marc Isaacs' curated programme comprising shorts that have informed and inspired his work and the enigmatic, foreboding Dead Slow Ahead which straddles the line between sci-fi and cinéma vérité.
