NTS Presents Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell

30 Sep 2014

NTS and the ICA present a screening of Wild Combination, Matt Wolf's acclaimed portrait of musician Arthur Russell.

Arthur Russell was a farm boy from Oskaloosa who moved to New York via a Buddhist commune in San Francisco, where he worked and played with artists as fantastically varied as Philip Glass, Allen Ginsberg, Nicky Siano and Richard Hell. A pioneering disco producer, cellist, composer and singer-songwriter, he died aged just 40 in 1992, and is now beginning to get the wide, often obsessive, audience he deserves.

This film, a moving and absorbing portrait, uses new and rare archival footage and commentary from Russell's family, friends, and closest collaborators, including Glass and Ginsberg, plus plenty of his brilliant, beautiful dance tracks.
