Nicolas Roeg’s groundbreaking follow-up to the thriller Don’t Look Now follows an alien hero, played by David Bowie, who has come to Earth in search of the water that will save his drought-ridden planet. Armed with a brilliant scientific mind, and aided by a mightily impressed lawyer (Buck Henry), he establishes a corporation that nets him millions and finds himself a loving girlfriend (Candy Clark). But his mission becomes diluted by a fascination with Earth’s corrupting physical pleasures.
A sci-fi drama featuring a performance of dreamy intensity by Bowie and striking images by ex-cinematographer Roeg.
The Man Who Fell To Earth, dir. Nicolas Roeg, UK 1976, 139 mins.
