In his harrowing masterwork, Fritz Lang merges trenchant social commentary with chilling suspense, creating a panorama of private madness and public hysteria that to this day remains the blueprint for the psychological thriller. M was made two years before Hitler came to power and was Lang's first sound film, and stars Peter Lorre as the compulsive child murderer who is hunted down not only by a police force but also by Berlin's criminal underworld.
