Laurel Nakadate: Switch Off Your Television

8 Dec 201111 Dec 2011

Fresh from major solo shows at MOMA PS1 in New York and the Zabludowicz Collection, London, American artist Laurel Nakadate is fast establishing herself through her distinctive video and photography work. Nakadate joins a growing number of moving image artists such as Miranda July and Steve McQueen choosing to explore their interests through feature film making.

Nakadate's two films, Stay The Same Never Change and The Wolf Knife, both examine interpersonal relationships through the prism of sexuality, loneliness, voyeurism, power, seduction and innocence, challenging the way we use sexuality to establish our identities and interact with the world around us. The Switch Off Your Television season brings both of Nakadate's feature films to the ICA screen.
