Ahmet Öğüt, Küçüknefes: 4 possible readings of an uncut movie, 2014

Journal: Artists' Film Club: Ahmet Öğüt

6 Aug 2014

In a live performance event, artist Ahmet Öğüt presents a filmic intervention in collaboration with London-based musicians Bora Akıncıtürk, Serhan Arcağ and Deniz Belendir (Fino Blendax), creating four unique soundtracks that respond to a recent feature film by director Kaan Mujdeci.

Like many of Öğüt’s works, the performance deals with representation and social engagement, which in this instance reveal the fluidity of film and soundtrack as a representative media. As with earlier projects including the ongoing The Silent University, 2011-ongoing, an educational and performative resource for asylum seekers, he deals directly with socio-political issues, relevant on a global scale.

Ahmet Öğüt (born Diyarbakir, Turkey in 1981) is a founding member of the Silent University. Selected solo exhibitions include: Strategies for Radical Democracy, The Blackwood Gallery at University of Toronto, Canada (2014); Fahrenheit 451: Reprinted, Checkpoint Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland (2013); and Or whistle spontaneously, Delfina Foundation, London, UK (2013). Group exhibitions include: Giving Contours to Shadows, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Berlin, Germany (2014); Nouvelles Vagues - A History of Inspiration, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France (2013); and Signs Taken in Wonder: Searching for Contemporary Istanbul, Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art, Vienna, Austria (2013).

Due to unforeseen circumstances musician Yasemin Mori will no longer be participating in the event.

Please note that all films are 18+ unless otherwise stated.
