Dublin’s James Vincent McMorrow is building up quite a head of steam. Signed to the Vagrant imprint in America (home of The Hold Steady, Edward Sharpe, School of Seven Bells) and already successful in his native Ireland, McMorrow’s world is one of haunting folk and mythic imagery. His early love was hardcore rock, with teenage days spent playing drums along to the likes of Refused and Glassjaw before becoming enamored with Donny Hathaway and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Fascinated by the hip hop production of acts such as The Neptunes and Timbaland, James spent three years experimenting with sounds and learning how to make music before trying to make a record. The resulting EP James Vincent McMorrow unleashed an atmospheric and beautifully crafted work. Marrying Irish upbringings with his plethora of American influences it reached number 1 in Ireland to rave reviews, followed by an extensive US tour. Now in 2011 - the road to a bigger, broader audience beckons.
