EAVI Live

EAVI Live

6 Aug 2017

Live performances by Howlround, Calum Gunn, Ewa Justka and newly-assembled groups from the day’s workshops (Howlround’s Tape Orchestra, Algorave Noise Unit and Ewa Justka’s Acid Orchestra). There will also be DJ sets from Chloe Alice Frieda and CXLO.

This evening event is the culmination of a day of workshops convened by The Embodied AudioVisual Interaction Group (EAVI) and Adam Parkinson (Dane Law).

Aligning with other aspects of the In formation programme, EAVI locate audiovisual performance within spaces of collaboration and sensory connectivity, articulating new ways for collective and individual interaction to promote learning and participation.

ewa justka, warszawa, 20 07 2016

Ewa Justka is a Polish electronic noise artist, self-taught instruments builder and electronics teacher. Justka’s main field of research is based on an exploration of the materiality of objects, vibrant, ontological systems, and an investigation into modes of quasi-direct perception through noise performance actions, interactive installation, DIY electronics, hardware hacking, plant-molesting, breaking, deconstructing and collaborating. Her thrilling AV performances coax stroboscopic acid from assemblages of drum machines and homemade electronics. She recently received the Oram Award from PRS.

Calum Gunn _Unorganised Music EP_ " 3-1 "

Calum Gunn is a musician and web developer whose practice encompasses academic computer music and rave culture and sounds. His work focuses on the deconstruction of rhythm, subverting the notion of dance music. Inspired by ‘classic’ rave sounds, modern EDM and early techno, he reproduces familiar sounds, arranging them into new patterns and tones. Gunn runs the Conditional record label and hosts a show on Resonance Extra.

Howlround normally operate as a six-piece featuring Chris Weaver, Robin The Fog and four tape recorders. They work with magnetic tape in sculptural configurations to loop and layer sound in often dense and haunting compositions. Their performances evoke the experimental era of emerging recordings played live with hands-on manipulation of their material, creating immersive soundscapes of mournfully melodies from a half-remembered past that might never have happened.

Chloe Alice Frieda runs the Alien Jams record label and an NTS radio show of the same name. Operating since 2014, the label has released artists including Karen Gwyer, Beatrice Dillon, rkss and Design a Wave. Chloe's DJ sets typically encompass bizarre electronics, industrial-tinged techno and minimal synth oddities.

CXLO is a producer from Cornwall, now living in London. She brings her idiosyncratic production style to her DJ sets, letting tracks warp and flex, transmitting the sound of post-AI London, painted in broad strokes of glossy synthesis and stuttering rhythms.

The Embodied Audio-visual Interaction Group (EAVI) is a research group based at Goldsmiths, University of London. Centred on the research of its staff and affiliates, EAVI realise new technologies, seminars and live events furthering their enquiries. Recent events include the FSP 2016 weekend in the Brunel Tunnel (a collaboration with CRISAP), working with artist Uta Kogelsberger to transform St Olave’s Church into a sound installation for Art Night, and their ongoing bi-monthly night at the Amersham Arms initiated in 2013.
