The Dark Harbour (Futoko)

10 Feb 201211 Feb 2012

Manzo is a lonley fisherman who spends most of his days dreaming of finding a woman to spend the rest of life with. When he comes across an advertisement for a matchmaking company requiring to create a self-produced video, Manzo's life takes an unexpected turn when his own project reveals a woman and her son living in his bedroom's closets. As their identity is revealed to the other citizens, Manzo's relationship to both mother and son is challenged.

Takatsugu Naito's work as a filmmaker is clearly marked by his emphasis on expression, gestures and elements characteristic from silent film comedies. The Dark Harbour, presented as part of Whose Film Is It Anyway?, is nominated for the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival 2009.
