Culture Now: Lisa Schiff

Join us for this lunchtime talk with art advisor Lisa Schiff in conversation with Jane Morris.

Lisa Schiff is an art adviser based in New York. Founding her company - Schiff Fine Art – in 2002, Lisa helps private collectors acquire works from established and emerging artists. Lisa specialises in Modern and Contemporary art, and with a global outreach, she surveys the private and commercial sectors of the art market in order to educate and guide her client’s purchases through a variety of outlets. Lisa also works closely with the artists, regularly visiting their studios around the world.

By working in a diverse range of different positions within the art industry, Lisa has built a wealth of knowledge in relation to its market, and with which to inform her specialised advisory role. With her first gallery position being in Paris in 1991, Lisa has since since spent several years working at Phillips de Pury and Luxembourg as assistant to the CEO and as manager of International Operation. She has taught art history at Hunter College, the College of Staten Island, and Nassau Community College, and prior to launching her own company, she directed Edward Tyler Nahem Fine Art. Currently, Lisa sits on the Producer's Council of the New Museum and the Art Council of the Dia Art Foundation in New York. She is on the Contemporary Council of LAXART in Los Angeles, and on the Board of Trustees of Rhizome and the Board of Trustees of the Sculpture Center, both in New York. Lisa is ABD on her PhD in Art History. She holds an M.A. in Art History from the University of Miami, Florida, and a B.A. in Art History and French from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Jane Morris is the Editor of The Art Newspaper. A fine art graduate of Central St Martin’s School of Art with a postgraduate journalism degree from City University, Jane Morris started her career writing about the curatorial side of the art world, becoming editor of Museums Journal and editor-in-chief of Museum Practice. Before her current role as editor of The Art Newspaper, she was a freelance writer for The Guardian and V&A magazine, news editor at Art World and a reviewer for Artforum.com.
