Culture Now: Andrew Weatherall + Live Edition

8 Jun 2012

Andrew Weatherall has been a fixture on the British acid house scene since DJing at Danny Rampling's legendary Shoom night as well as venues including Blood Sugar, Circulation and Sabresonic, subsequently setting up his own record label- Boys Own Recordings. It was through Primal Scream though that Andrew first made his name; as the producer of Screamadelica he took The Primals, twisted them, and in turn created the hybrid of narcotically-challenged rock and acid house now seen as a generation-defining release.

As one half of Two Lone Swordsman, Weatherall continues to span musical genres from and combining influences from techno, rockabilly, soul and roots rock, released his first solo album A Pox on the Pioneers in 2009. Weatherall is currently working on his second solo album and April 2012 saw Ministry of Sound release a triple CD edition containing Weatherall’s unreleased material, remixes and a DJ mix based on his A Love From Outer Space concept - a party night that started as a tiny London residency but has now found it’s home at festivals and clubs worldwide.

Emma Warren has been documenting music scenes since the mid '90s when she was a founding contributor to influential dance music magazine Jockey Slut. She recently made documentaries for BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1 Xtra and her work has appeared in The Guardian, The Observer, and TimeOut. Alongside hosting lectures and panels for Rough Trade, Port Eliot festival, The Tate Britain and the Red Bull Music Academy she is also the senior editorial mentor at youth-created, cutting edge publication Live Magazine with a view to promoting a new generation of talent in print, video and broadcast.

Live Edition
