The UK premiere of this Polish documentary, winner of the Film Critics Week Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival 2016. 14-year-old Ola takes care of her dysfunctional father, autistic brother and a mother who lives separately, but most of all she tries to reunite the family. She lives in the hope of bringing her mother back home. Her 13-year-old brother Nikodem’s Holy Communion is a pretext for the family to meet up and Ola is entirely responsible for preparing the perfect family celebration. Communion reveals the beauty of the rejected, the strength of the weak and the need for change when change seems impossible.
This screening is presented by Frames of Representation in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute, and is the closing screening of the Frames of Representation 2016 New Periphery theme. The new festival dates and themes for the Frames of Representation Film Festival 2017 will be announced prior to the screening.
