"An impressive, often transfixing excavation of emotionally dark territory." Film Comment
For one month only, a further chance to see Portuguese director Pedro Costa's challenging and rewarding drama following its initial April release. Set in the slums of Lisbon, this austerely beautiful film is a series of apparently disconnected tableaux, watching as an elderly ex-labourer negotiates his impending re-location to a modern, antiseptic apartment. Poised between fiction and non-fiction (the cast are all non-professionals), and putting rhythm and texture above conventional narrative, this is essential work from a visionary film-maker.
