Jerusalem remains a world away from the cosmopolitan 'bubble' of Tel Aviv, but at its heart – and at the heart of this inspiring documentary - is Shushan, the only gay bar in Jerusalem, a much-loved haven for Jews and Arabs alike, owned by City Councillor Sa’ar Nathaniel. The eventual closure of the Shushan Bar is a painful blow, but this pioneering experiment in tolerance and co-existence lives on in its regulars - a resilient community proudly doing all they can for peace.
Followed by a Q&A with Sa’ar Nathaniel and Ellen Goldberg, Executive Director of New Israel Fund UK which works to promote freedom, justice and equality for all Israel’s citizens.
You are invited to join us after the discussion in the ICA bar where DJ Kobayashi will be on the decks.
