Based on a very popular Catalan play by Josep María Sagarra, El Cafè de la Marina (The Marina Cafe) is set in a fishing village in the early 20th century, where life is tough and monotonous.

The impending wedding of Rosa, the village bar-owner’s youngest daughter, has seemingly enlivened the parish but behind this joy, the tragedy of Caterina, her elder sister, has tainted and perturbed the “well-meaning” villagers.

The film’s director, Sílvia Munt, uses her extensive theatre and film-related experience to skillfully marry traditional theatrical techniques with modern narrative structures. El Cafè de la Marina brings together an outstanding cast composed by new and established Catalan actors.
