Captain Webb tells the story of the first man to swim the English channel in 1875.
The film begins with Webb diving into the freezing water in Dover, armed only with his moustache, doses of brandy and wire wool swimming trunks, and concludes as he reaches the French coast. The film uses flashbacks to explore his motives and the character traits that drove him on as he braced high seas, jellyfish stings and furious winds to become the sporting hero of his time.
Captain Webb stars Warren Brown and Steve Oram. The soundtrack is provided by Mercury prize nominees British Sea Power.
