“Perhaps the most brilliantly original practitioner of his generation.” Jan Morris, The Spectator
"There is no other writer quite like Dyer. He is wickedly funny, indefatigably brilliant and almost effortlessly compelling.” Buffalo News
“Dyer’s eyes miss nothing, and his brain emits sparks as brilliantly as The Lightning Field is meant to do in an evening thunderstorm.” Peter Conrad, Observer
This screening of The Boys is introduced by author Geoff Dyer (White Sands, Zona, But Beautiful)
The Boys is a powerful and disturbing portrait of three brothers and the women in their lives, featuring stunning performances from David Wenham (Australia, The Proposition) and Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine, Muriel's Wedding).
Brett Sprague returns to his family home after twelve months in jail. Things have changed while he has been away - his brother Glenn has moved out with his girlfriend Jackie; younger brother Stevie's pregnant girlfriend Nola now lives with the family, and his mother Sandra has taken on a Maori drifter.
Reunited with his brothers, Brett uses his first day back to restore order, with devastating consequences.
The Boys, dir. Rowan Woods, Australia 1998, 86 mins
Please note that a three minute short film will be screened before the first main feature every evening. Part of a rotating selection that changes weekly, the films shown are currently on tour to various arts venues across the country as part of Playback
