Co-hosted with Birds Eye View as part of the Bloody Women programme.
Virgins and innocents scantily clad and covered in blood; seductresses and villainesses with voracious appetites: women in horror haven’t always had the most emancipating roles but what would horror be without them and are they in fact central to the genre? What do these roles reveal about our cultural fears and beliefs? How are women portrayed in contemporary horror and are new women writers and directors taking control of their own stories?
Join us for an evening of bloodletting and debate, with clips from the most iconic and innovative contributions by women filmmakers. Featuring Emily Booth (actress & Horror Channel presenter), Alan Jones (critic and Film4 Frightfest co-director), Linda Williams (University of Southampton film professor), Muriel Gray (author & journalist), Kerry Anne Mullaney (BAFTA-nominated director, The Dead Outside) and Lizzie Francke (Film Fund Senior Production and Development Executive, UK Film Council).
