BFI London Film Festival: LFF Connects - Arts: Lynette Wallworth

13 Oct 2016

BFI Film Festival: 245 features. 74 countries. 15 cinemas. 12 days. One Festival.

Australian artist and director Lynette Wallworth discusses her trailblazing career in the field of immersive film and how she is using technology to make art. Lynette has made her name using film, augmented reality and immersive technology to tell stories which probe the impact of technology on our world and our morality. They include the interactive installation Evolution of Fearlessness in 2011, the interactive documentary-art hybrid Coral: Rekindling Venus in 2013, and the docu-drama Tender, which screened at the LFF in 2014.

Her latest work is the dazzling, devastating Collisions which marks her first foray into the brave new world of virtual reality. The 15-minute film re-enacts Aboriginal elder Nyarri Nyarri Morgan’s witnessing of an atomic test in the Australian bush in the 1950s, when he believed he was in the awful presence of a wrathful god. The film will be available to watch on VR headsets after the talk.
