Artists' Film Club: Oliver Laric + Q&A

22 Apr 2015

Oliver Laric attempts to overhaul the preconceived formulas of video and sculpture, blurring the space between the original art forms and his reimaginings. Laric’s work contains a multiplicity of layers, both physical and metaphorical. In making allusions to everything from Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon (1950), to Mariah Carey to Sun Tzu, the didactic functions of Laric’s work are hidden in a dichotomy between the past and the present; both appear to simultaneously clash and intersect. The screening will be followed by a Q&A.

Oliver Laric (born 1981 Innsbruck, Austria), lives and works in Berlin. Self-titled solo shows at ar/ge kunst Galerie Museum, Bolzano; Tanya Leighton, Berlin; Oliver Laric: Lincoln 3D scans, The Collection and Usher Gallery, Lincolnshire; and Yuanmingyuan 3D, ENTRÉE, Bergen (all 2014). Recent group shows include Triennial: Surround Audience, New Museum, New York; All Tomorrow’s Past, Kunsthaus Hamburg; Lumination, Patricia Low Contemporary, Gstaad; and Hybridize or Disappear, Museu Nacional De Arte Contemporânea Do Chiado, Lisbon. Forthcoming solo shows will take place at CCA, Tel Aviv, Austrian Cultural Forum, London (2015) and Secession, Vienna (2016).
