The Art of Public Debate

The Art of Public Debate

30 Apr 2007

Mark Wallinger's reconstruction of Brian Haw's Parliament Square protest re-opened the debate about artists' relationship to politics and public spaces. Was Wallinger's installation more effective in raising public consciousness than Haw's?

This discussion focuses on the work of artists intervening in the public sphere: getting their hands dirty in public debates, and embracingeven courtingthe media's hysterical response.

Speakers include artists Mark Wallinger, Mark McGowan, Neil Bromwich and Zoe Walker.

The discussion is chaired by JJ Charlesworth, Reviews Editor, ArtReview.
