Kleber Mendonça Filho, Aquarius, 2016

24 Mar 201711 Apr 2017

In an upscale suburb of Recife, Brazil, retired music critic Clara resolutely opposes a shady property developer’s efforts to evict her from her beloved apartment. As she engages in a cold war with the company, Clara reflects on her life and the people and incidents that gave it meaning, whilst resisting the entreaties of her daughter to sell up and move on.

As with his previous film, the multi-award-winning Neighbouring Sounds, writer/director Kleber Mendonça Filho has wrought a wonderfully astute and moving meditation on a routinely unethical modern-day Brazil.
