All Around Us (Gururi no Koto)

15 Feb 2012

Hashiguchi's film portrays the marriage of Shoko, an organized, controlling publicist, and Kanao, a man who lives his day to day life with no plans for the future. When Kanao takes over a TV news job as a courtroom sketch-artist, he finds himself working among some of the most disturbed individuals in Japan. Meanwhile, still haunted by a miscarriage in her pasts, Shoko, begins to fall apart.

Best known for his films on homosexual narratives such as Like Grains of Sand (1995) and Hush! (2001), the film also includes the outstanding performance of the upcoming actors Tae Kimura, in the role of Shoko, and Japanese novelist, Franky Lily, as Kanao.

Dir: Ryosuke Hashiguchi, 2008, Japanese with English subtitles, 140 mins
Cast: Lily Franky, Tae Kimura
